Ask for One Specific Kind of Help

Whena task needs help from someone willing

Choose a safe, willing person and make one bounded request: name the task, the kind of help and a time or limit. For example, ask someone to sit with you while you call an office or listen to one practice interview answer.

Why it works

A request for help makes the other person guess the job. A task, a kind of help and a limit give them something concrete to answer.

Start tiny

Write the one sentence you might ask.

What you’ll notice

The other person knows what you are asking them to do and when.

When it slips

If the person cannot help or doesn't reply, thank them if appropriate and choose another willing person, service or solo next step. A ‘no’ is not a verdict on your worth.

SafetyAsk only someone you can safely approach. Choose a service or another route if a personal contact is unsafe or unavailable.
