Place your portrait subject in soft light

Whensomeone agrees to a portrait

With a willing person, try an indirect window or open shade. Turn them slightly and look at how light falls across their face. Choose a comfortable position with visible facial detail and take a portrait.

Start tiny

Make one portrait in nearby indirect light.

SafetyUse a willing subject; agree separately before sharing. Stop if they want to stop.
