Pause for One Breath Before Responding

Whenyou feel yourself about to snap during a chore

For a harmless mistake, stop your hands and take one comfortable breath before speaking. Then describe the next action in your normal voice.

Why it works

A harmless spill can turn into two jobs: clearing the mess and repairing the argument. A pause gives you a chance to keep it to one.

Start tiny

Release your hands and pause once.

What you’ll notice

You deal with the dropped socks without turning the room into a courtroom.

When it slips

If you already shouted, stop and say “I shouted. I’ll try that again.” Use a shorter job if everyone is worn out.

SafetyAct immediately for danger. A pause must never delay stopping a burn, choking risk or injury.
