Give One Clear Instruction at Cleanup

Whenyou notice toys blocking a walkway

Get nearby and say one specific action, such as “Put the blocks in this basket.” Wait for that step before adding another.

Why it works

“Clean this up” makes a beginner decide what goes where and what comes first. A clear first step removes that extra puzzle.

Start tiny

Point to one block and its basket.

What you’ll notice

Your request gets shorter, and your child has somewhere concrete to start.

When it slips

If nothing happens, check they heard and know how. Demonstrate or do the first item together rather than getting louder.

SafetyDo not force eye contact; use a communication cue your child can comfortably access.
