Acknowledge Frustration Before Restating the Task
Whenyour child protests a routine chore
Say what you notice without assigning motives: “You want to keep playing.” Then state the small next step: “This car goes on the shelf.” Offer help with starting.
Why it works
A feeling and a household expectation can share the same sentence. You do not have to win an argument about whether tidying is fun.
Start tiny
Say “Stopping is hard” and point to one item.
What you’ll notice
You can hold a limit while sounding like someone on their side.
When it slips
If your words make them angrier, use fewer. Check for tiredness, hunger or an overwhelming task before pressing on.
SafetyNever withhold food, sleep, comfort or required care to secure cooperation.
