Get a colleague's confirmation before handing over work

Whenan agreed colleague is taking over responsibility for a live task

Send the agreed next owner a short handover: the current state, the next needed action, and where the working file lives. Ask them to confirm ownership before you leave the task with them; follow any formal handover procedure your role requires.

Why it works

A note to yourself preserves memory; a confirmed handover changes who is responsible. This is a practical boundary tactic, not a tested three-minute intervention.

Start tiny

Ask the agreed owner to confirm one live item.

What you’ll notice

There is a named, confirmed person carrying the task while you are away.

When it slips

Nobody confirms, or they lack access. Resolve that during the shift or use your team’s escalation route; an unanswered message does not transfer responsibility.
