Pick outer lettuce leaves for your food

Whenyou prepare a sandwich or salad

From healthy established loose-leaf lettuce, pick a few usable outer leaves. Leave the centre and enough healthy leaves to keep growing. Rinse the harvest under running water and use it in your food.

Start tiny

Pick and rinse one ready outer leaf.

When it slips

A tall flower stalk and bitter leaves mean the crop is finishing. Clear the spent plant and re-sow only when the local season suits lettuce.

SafetyUse correctly identified edible lettuce. Leave weak plants to recover; discard rotten or contaminated leaves.
