Teach One Meal Task in Weekly Practice
Whenyou plan the next week’s meals
Schedule one supervised meal-prep task to practice weekly for a month. Demonstrate it, do it together, then let your child lead the safe parts as their skill grows.
Why it works
Independence can begin with repeated work beside someone who knows the job. A familiar task leaves more attention for getting better at it.
Start tiny
Choose one task, such as washing lettuce.
What you’ll notice
One part of dinner becomes something your child knows how to begin.
When it slips
If the task stays difficult, simplify it or keep doing it together. Advance by demonstrated skill, not by the calendar.
SafetyAn adult supervises food preparation and handles heat, blades, raw meat and choking hazards. Practice does not mean unsupervised access.
