Practice a Brief Apology After You Snap
Wheneveryone is calm after you snapped during a chore
For two weeks, repair each slip once you are both calm: “I shouted. That wasn’t fair. Next time I’ll pause.” Then return to the small task or help finish it.
Why it works
Children see mistakes as well as good intentions. Owning your response shows what returning to respectful behavior looks like.
Start tiny
Say “I shouted. I’m sorry.”
What you’ll notice
A bad moment gets an ending instead of hanging over the rest of the day.
When it slips
If you start explaining how they caused it, stop at your own action. Ask another adult for support if snapping is becoming the routine.
SafetyNever make the child comfort you or forgive you on demand. If you fear hurting someone, secure immediate adult support.
