Practise rejoining a piece after slips

Whenyou begin a performance run-through

During your regular run-through, keep the beat after a small mistake and rejoin at the next phrase you recognize. After finishing, practise starting at that phrase, then at another landmark.

Start tiny

Start cleanly from one middle phrase.

When it slips

If you lose your place entirely, stop and choose a clear landmark. Repair the error separately afterward.

Read the source ↗ Practitioner advice on previewing and playing unfamiliar music without correction stops; adapted scope and cue. Recovery landmarks are an editorial extension of continuous reading, not anxiety treatment.

Mastery: Inspect your work, apply a specific correction in later practice and check whether it helped.
