Adjust One Play Offer to Your Child’s Changing Interests

Whenyou plan the coming week’s time with your child

Each week, note one interest your child returned to and one activity they stopped enjoying. Change one play offer to fit: fewer pieces, a new role, or a different material. Try it together and observe without making it a test.

Why it works

The child beside you keeps changing. Last month’s perfect activity can retire.

Start tiny

Write one thing they chose this week.

What you’ll notice

You arrive with an offer that fits the child you have today.

When it slips

If you turn this into a milestone score, return to one observed preference. Keep the change small and accept their refusal. Adapt: Birth–1: adjust pace or sensory load. 1–3: follow repeated exploration. 3–6: offer a new role or material; interests, not age deadlines.
