Darn a small knitted hole

Whena favourite knit wears through

Use a blunt darning needle and yarn matching the garment’s thickness and care needs. Support a small hole flat without stretching it.

Steps
  1. Anchor yarn in sound knit, leaving a tail. Span the hole with parallel strands, stitching into sound fabric at each turn; extend at least 6 mm beyond damage.
  2. Weave across those strands, alternating over and under. Reverse the pattern on the next row; keep the fabric relaxed.
  3. Weave tails back into the reverse. Check for gaps and puckering; undo tight rows before wearing.

Start tiny

Find sound knit around all sides of the hole.

SafetyBegin on an ordinary sweater, not protective clothing. A larger hole can be patched or taken to a mender.
