Rinse troublesome aphid clusters from edible plants

Whenidentified aphids are damaging new growth on a pot

Confirm the insects are aphids: small soft-bodied insects, often clustered on shoots, with paired tailpipes. Support the stem and rinse the affected cluster off with water strong enough to dislodge it without tearing leaves. Recheck at the next plant visit; repeat if damaging clusters remain.

Start tiny

Rinse one affected leaf.

SafetyA few aphids may need no treatment. Unsure of the insect or damage? Ask a local garden adviser before treating. Do not blast tender seedlings or use dish detergent as a pesticide.
