Resew an opened seam

Whena seam opens on woven clothing

Turn the garment inside out. Use needle and knotted thread to rejoin sound fabric along its original seam line. Keep the opposite garment layer clear.

Steps
  1. Start about 1 cm before the gap in intact stitching. Bring the needle up.
  2. Go back one short stitch, then come up one stitch ahead. Repeat along the old line without puckering.
  3. Continue 1 cm beyond the gap. Secure with two small looped stitches, trim and gently test.

Start tiny

Match the two seam edges along the old stitch line.

SafetyFor a short, straight seam in non-stretch fabric. Torn fabric needs a patch; waterproof or protective clothing needs its own method.
